X-TEAM Test Diary - LOBOO

X-TEAM Test Diary

Ride with X-TEAM across the wild Dahai Ancient Trail in Xinjiang — one of the toughest deserts on Earth. On BMW, KTM, and Aprilia bikes, we pushed LOBOO gear like the C36 smart charger and Wanderer crash bar bags to their limits. Sandstorms, brutal winds, endless dunes — real-world tests that separate true adventure gear from the rest. See how LOBOO stands up when the road disappears and only grit and gear matter.

Preparations:

Our small team of adventure riders, X-TEAM, together with an off-road support RV, assembled at the remote edge of Hami, Xinjiang, ready to tackle the legendary Dahai Ancient Trail.
"Dahai" translates literally to "Great Desert," and this obscure route winds through vast uninhabited desert areas. It once served as a crucial branch of the ancient Silk Road.
As our convoy crossed into this boundless no-man's land, a wall of dust rose on the horizon. Local weather reports warned of extreme desert winds and the potential for sandstorms.
The riders tightened their gear and conducted final checks. This expedition was not just about reaching the other side — it was a real-world, rigorous test of LOBOO’s adventure gear under some of the harshest conditions on Earth.

Equipment and Team Overview:

The expedition included four motorcycles — a BMW R1250GS Adventure, a KTM 1290 Super Adventure R, an Aprilia Tuareg 660, a Scrambler 1200XE — and an 8×8 Mercedes-Benz Arocs support RV carrying water, fuel, and supplies.

Motorcycle Tank Bag

Among the test equipment were LOBOO foldable mirrors, LOBOO BTB12 Tank Bag, the new LOBOO Wanderer inflatable crash bar bags, and at least one LOBOO C36 two-way smart charger (test version) connected to a motorcycle battery.

Our mission was to push this gear to its limits across multiple days of long-distance travel, verifying whether LOBOO’s products could truly deliver on their promises of durability and performance.

Wanderer Inflatable Crash Bar Bags

Before setting off, we completed a final inspection:

  • The C36 charger, firmly mounted on the handlebars.

  • The crash bar bag, fastened and fully inflated for maximum protection.

  • The foldable mirrors, adjusted for optimal rear visibility.

Setting Off Under the Threat of Strong Winds:

LOBOO Under the Threat of Strong Winds

At the start of the journey, the sky had a strange brownish hue, with fine sand particles suspended in the air.
Just a few hours in, fierce winds began battering the riders — our first encounter with the Dahai Trail’s infamous "crosswinds."
To reduce wind resistance and protect our equipment, we folded up the LOBOO mirrors — something conventional mirrors couldn't achieve.
Crafted from aluminum and designed for quick folding, the LOBOO mirrors collapsed within seconds, mitigating the risk of damage.
Even amidst the sandstorm, the mirrors’ hinges and anti-glare lenses stayed steady, demonstrating excellent weather resistance in the intense desert sun.
Despite the strongest gusts nearly toppling us, the mirrors remained intact — a seemingly small but crucial detail that boosted our confidence in such hostile conditions.

That afternoon, the LOBOO C36 smart charger had its first chance to prove itself.
After a grueling six-hour ride, one team member’s helmet communication device was nearly out of battery.
He detached it and connected it directly to the C36.
The two-way C36 acts like a mobile power hub — not only charging the motorcycle's battery during rides but also delivering up to 130W of output through its TYPE-C port for fast device charging.

C36 Bi-Directional Charger

The C36’s screen displayed real-time battery voltage, allowing the team to verify that — despite slow travel and heavy fan usage in the brutal heat — all motorcycles still maintained sufficient battery power.
Thanks to its IP67-rated water- and dustproof design and overheat protection, the C36 remained unaffected by sandstorms and high temperatures throughout the day.
It operated like a mini off-grid generator, powering satellite phones, camera batteries, and even a teammate’s laptop used for processing drone footage — without the need to start the RV's generator.
This saved fuel and added a layer of security to the expedition.

First Camp Rest:

By dusk, after battling intermittent sandstorms, we had covered only around 80 kilometers.
When the winds finally subsided, we set up camp in a natural depression sheltered among the dunes.

Tomorrow, the adventure deeper into the wild unknown would continue.
