Will a radiator guard restrict airflow and cause overheating?

Not with LOBOO's Air Conduction design. Standard flat mesh guards can restrict airflow by 15–25% depending on mesh density — a real concern on high-performance liquid-cooled engines. LOBOO guards use precision-angled louvers that actively direct incoming air into the radiator fins rather than blocking it. What is included in the KTM 1290 Radiator + Engine Mudguard Kit?

The KTM 1290 Super Adventure S/R kit includes both a radiator guard and an integrated engine mudguard in a single package. The radiator guard uses the Air Conduction louver design to protect the radiator core while maintaining airflow. The engine mudguard mounts below it, preventing rocks and debris kicked up by the front wheel from reaching the lower engine area and oil cooler. The total kit weight is 357g — lighter than many standalone aluminium guards — and both components install to original mounting points with no drilling required. Fitment covers both the S and R variants of the 2022+ generation.

What is the difference between the aluminum guard and the carbon fiber guard for the R1300GS?

Both guards protect the radiator from stone chips and debris using the same model-specific fitment for the BMW R1300GS. The aluminum Air Conduction guard is the practical choice for most riders — robust, corrosion-resistant, and cost-effective. The real carbon fiber guard is designed for R1300GS Adventure owners who want maximum protection with minimum added weight, and whose priority includes the premium aesthetics of a true carbon weave finish. Carbon fiber provides exceptional rigidity while being lighter than aluminium; it also doubles as a replacement for the stock plastic radiator side panels, upgrading the visual character of the bike at the same time.

Does the radiator guard cover both sides of the radiator?

Yes — LOBOO radiator guards are supplied as a pair (left and right) covering both sides of the radiator assembly. Each guard is shaped to match the specific radiator profile of the model, so coverage is optimised for the actual exposed surface area rather than a generic shape. Some models (like the KTM 1290 kit) include additional coverage below the radiator via the integrated mudguard section.

How difficult is installation, and do I need to drain the coolant?

No coolant drainage required. LOBOO radiator guards are external bolt-on accessories that mount in front of the radiator using existing frame bolts or dedicated bracket positions. They don't contact the radiator directly or require any disconnection of cooling system components. Most installations take 20–35 minutes with a basic socket set. All mounting hardware is included and a photo guide is provided with each kit.

Can a radiator guard be used alongside upper crash bars?

Yes — and this is the recommended setup for serious off-road use. Upper crash bars provide lateral protection to the radiator in a tip-over, while the radiator guard provides frontal protection from trail debris. They mount in different positions and don't interfere with each other. The combination of upper crash bars plus radiator guard gives the radiator protection from both the most common impact directions simultaneously — lateral falls and forward debris strikes.

What other guards should I pair with a radiator guard for complete ADV protection?

For a complete protection system, add a headlight guard to protect the lens from the same stone chips that threaten the radiator, an engine guard / skid plate to shield the underside from below, and crash bars for lateral tip-over protection on the sides.
